First marathon - Disney world, Florida!

Gained my Personal Best for half-marathon, and decided to push for the Full marathon. Since, i am in the States and left all my running friends in Malaysia, I eventually stopped running. Running as in the trainings. No more gangs. I did join some events, but without any training.

Registered for the Standard Charted KL Marathon (One of the biggest event in Malaysia) after decided to come back to Malaysia for the summer. But then, the haze forced the authorities and enthusiastic runners to not run on that particular day. So, the event has been pushed or postponed to mid of September. By that time, I am already back in States!

Devastatingly, I registered for a top theme running event in th US, which is DISNEY WORLD MARATHON. Balas dendam punya psl. It's not a half marathon, but a MARATHON. I am soon to be a marathoner.

Initially, I planned to be a marathoner at the age of 25 with the timing of below 4 hrs. Looks like not. See me at Disney World! Can't wait to run in all the Disneylands! Can I run with a tutu skirt on me? or maybe kain batik? Hmm... what can I wear to represent my culture? :D

Lepas ni nak cuba mud run. Who's up for it?!

Run with MILES

running for the first time after a month resting; exhausting

Running alone without friends or pacer really challenged me.. thanks to those at the roadsides, holding motivational signs. that made me not to walk or stop running. I don't use energy gel (Gugel, energy bar, etc) cuz i forgot to buy. I feel like orang asli. Yela, usually ppl run with modern gadgets and those side nutritions. Like them. Here in america, you'll see a lot.

So, how's the atmosphere running in a different environment. For me, I feel the same cuz the weather didn't make much difference with Malaysia. It is in between summer and fall, so it is humid and normal sunshine that's similar to Malaysia.  I woke up at 5.30 am and cycle to downtown around 5-6km away from my house. Luckily I have a bicycle. If not, i would just be tired from walking. About from Ampang point to Ampang Park? That's the comparison for it. After the run, I need to cycle back to my home sweet home. Memang rasa macam buat Duathlon.

The route was mostly flat, but there's a bit hilly here and there; around 10-15 degree incline. The timing that i got for my 3rd HM.. without any training at all, was such an attainment or me. I guess this is the after effect after training more than my legs could handle it before the Standard Charted HM. We used miles here; 13.1 miles for 21km. I tried my best to think that 1 mile = 1km. It's a bit hard because you can really feel the distance, it's way further. Extra 600m?

My left foot which at the back of it (I don't know how to describe it) The place where we always get blisters, it hurt at the last 3 miles. My body wanted me to stop running and asked me to walk. Well said, this is the effect for not training. I ignored the hard and harsh voice and listen to another voice inside me. Just think that it's 3 km away, and you off to Chicago to enjoy your holiday! :) My 1st and 3rd HM was similar, cuz i ran alone without any training and no one I know is running with me.

Timing: 2:14:58
Rank: 388/1500 (overall). 5/18 (age category 18-19)

I don't think it has much difference except the MEDAL! It is really cool and it's like persuading you to join another run. It's not just a plain one with a single color and boring string (again I dunno what to call it). Anyway, every woman received a rose after the race, and I still keep mine! It's drying out now :P

I am lucky to have a new friend from China to come and to take some photos of me! Thank you!

running life has ended...

salam to readers. *waving high* hi all!!

Salam ramadhan :) Selamat berpuasa semua!

multiply deeds, minus greed

I know, this blog has not been updated for soooo long. So, what's up with the title? err.. i bet my running life has ended..wait.. hmm hmm.. In malaysia only, I guess so..Haha.. hopefully my passion in running will continue even when i am far far away from my beloved maternal family & my running family - TTKuda Runners.

A few months to go before flying off, they all has started to call me "US runner" and i feel like "ohmai, looks like i have to continue running" haha. Looks like I have to do it not because of myself? rite? I am not so sure about this. As we all know, the whites have long sexy legs, better endurance and stamina, way fitter than us - Malaysians. I am petite and who am I compare to them? Wait a sec, why am I being so sceptical? Malaysians are great too.. or to be more specific, the Malays are good too. I don't have the intention to be racist, but as far as I can see, there are more numbers of chinese that participated in this sporty events. Sorry to say, but that's the fact. Thankfully, more malays are interested in running nowadays :)

"i hope you could join me one day, boy"

So hell no, I will be stopping taking small steps to achieve one of my dreams. Who knows IF I train hard or train with the whites, I might be as good as Kak Amelia Musa? "Dream on sya, Dream on" You are just little kid with short legs that can go NOWHERE. "Shit u!" haha, okay, sorry. haha (don't get irritated with the haha please)

Let's recap the running events that I have been joining in year 2012.

a medal is left out : Runfest Cyberjaya (termasuk dalam koleksi 2011)

  • Cyberjaya Runfest
  • World Kidney day Run
  • UM run
  • Energizer Night Run
  • PJ Dawn 2012
  • Standard Charted Fun Run
  • Ekiden International Run
  • Team Malaysia FAN run
  • Kajang Jogathon
  • Standard Charted Kuala Lumpur Marathon
  • Cycle Hunt (government)
  • Feel Good Run
  • Men's Health / Shape Up night run
  • Orang run BHP

So, there you go!
I started to get serious in running this year, around end of march after I bought a new pair of shoes (brooks pureconnect). The first event with kinda serious training was Energizer Night Run. I posted about it in my earlier post and managed to get top 10. After that event, my friends and I realized that I can go far if I put lots of effort in it. So, a lil bit of intensive training with the help of volunteered coaches. Thanks to Abg Din and abg Shah. Alhamdulillah, membuahkan hasil :)
Abg din - Our Country Marathoner

Abg shah (with the cap) - among the top for Malaysia Adventure Race

These two people had a great influence in me and not to forget my fellow friends especially to my running pacer, Hidayat Ismail, without you, I won't break the record and succeed in missions. These memories will never fade away. Semua friendly belaka, memang thumbs up!  Enough said, it brought me tears whenever i think about it. Anyway, Million thanks to each one of you! *virtual group hug* sorry, but i am not good in words :P

with the pacer :)

He helped me to break some records @ personal best.
[Half marathon 21km : less than 2 hours] [12km : 65 mins]

Frankly speaking, I am such a lazy ass when it comes to training, speed work and all. Speed work? SCARY GILA! So, what can you expect when you only had a month training for the half marathon. haha. Impressive result tak? *kembang hidung jap*

Alhamdulillah, my 10km is in balance pace and timing. But since Ramadhan has arrrived, I've stop running ever since. I don't feel like it. I don't have the eagerness and spirit. Hopefully, after raya it will come back. Besides that, I understand that my right calf is DESPERATELY in need of rest. He's been aching and depressed for so long (since April). I think it's getting better now. SHIN SPLIN GO AWAY!

TTKUDA RUNNERS

Till we meet again EVERYONE! From the bottom of my heart, I am gonna miss each one of you. Semangat, sokongan, & tunjuk ajar yang telah diberikan sangat-sangat saya hargai. Insyaallah bakal kembali dengan harapan dan semangat yang baru :")

I agree with him, the route outside the lap was like hell. The hills were up and down. Crazy~!

First HALF marathon - PIBM

  • What's PBIM?
  • How long is half marathon?
  • Tell me more bout it...
Mom: I don't understand why do you want to torture yourself? You PAY for torturing. And now, jalan macam orang tua, kaki bengkak semua.

Me: It's my passion ma, I love running even though it's way tiring. Plus, I can collect medals. Satu kepuasan bila dah lepas finisher line.

Sakit-sakit badan for only 3 days. Syukur. If I don't train or warm up before the event, for sure it will last for a week. Confirm. This is my first Half-Marathon, equivalent to 21.++ KM. But what annoyed me was, based on my ipod, it stated that it's actually 24KM. Lebih 3km, itu da melampau weyh. I can still remember the moment when my iPod said " congratulations, u've ended ur half-marathon", just right in front of me, there's a BIG sign board said "3KM MORE TO GO" WTF?! Straight felt demotivated. But then, i knew that i 've achieved my target which is 2 hours and 15 mins, so another 3km wasn't a big deal for me. -.-' sigh. I managed to finish 24 KM in 2.5 hours. I know I have to improve this :D

Some preparations that I've made:

  • Jogging. But jogging ALONE is not enough. SERIOUSLY
  • I did some 'Core Strengthening Workouts' [ You can Youtube it :) ]
  • 60 pushups everday. ( i know, i know. not that much ) Lady push ups, where we bend the legs.
  • I bought some energy gels and a snack. But what i took was just energy gel, After 12KM. If u run for only 10km, i don't feel that u need it. Before taking it, i breathed hardly, then, suddenly it came back to normal pace, and I regained my energy. :) - I chose banana & strawberry
  • I slept at 9 pm and woke up at 1 am, had a light snack (wholemeal bread with tuna spread + a bottle of gatorade)
  • Good Luck wishes! thanks peeps! love u lots! #twitterjaya #friends (Siap ada buat kad untuk saya) This is the best thing - Semangat weyh!

I prepared everything meticulously because I was freaking scared with it. If it was 10km, i don't have to worry much, tak training pun tak ape. Honestly saying, after worked out, you can feel the difference. No short of breath and your arms tak lenguh pun. Tangan memainkan peranan sangat penting. The faster you swing em, the faster you run.
Kak sue - we met during towerthon

almost middle of the bridge, i was running so, pic not that clear

still dark cuz it wasn't even 6. hehe

geng baru for running (kak husna)

3 people spoke hokkien with me -____-"
Best part - we, women, ran among men. haha!! Almost at the end of the race, i saw only a few ladies. 3 4 probably? Yang hebat dah jauh ke depan, yang lain di belakang. All i can see, are men :P

There was this uncle (42km - veteran open) he ran for 6 hours! I think he's in his late 70's Lari pun sampai da senget badan when he was almost to the finisher. I envy his spirit and endurance.

Wholesome, PBIM was my greatest achievement for now. And yeah, I managed to run for 6 miles in 45 mins. Quite shocked with that.

AGE, GENDER & SIZES don't matter. What matter the most are SPIRIT & PERSEVERANCE.
-would love to be a lifetime runner-

p/s: sakit hati cuz tak dapat tahu result for PBIM. I wonder why, something wrong with the timing tag?
